The Austrian Academy for Sexual Medicine (located in Salzburg), under the direction of Dr. Marianne Greil-Soyka (AMS Berlin/Munich) and in cooperation with the Salzburg Medical Association, the Academy for Sexual Medicine (ASM) and the Institute for Sexual Research and Sexual Medicine, Charité Berlin, offers a two part educational program: a sexual medicine basis module as A Basic Education of Sexual Medicine and a program for working professionals with a duration of approx. 1.5 years as An Advanced Studies Curriculum for Sexual Medicine in Salzburg.
The advanced studies program offered by the Austrian Academy is carried out in close cooperation with the ASM and is oriented on their course offerings (see Vogt et al. 1995, Beier 1999). This advanced studies program has been offered in Berlin since 1997 through the Institute for Sexual Research and Sexual Medicine at the Charité in collaboration with the Medical Association of Berlin and was integrated into the Advanced Studies Program of the Medical Association of Berlin in 2007 as “Additional Certification in Sexual Medicine”. This is the first additional studies program for sexual medicine certified by a German Medical Association. Additional AMS advanced studies programs for sexual medicine have been or are offered in Munich and Düsseldorf.
Educational Candidates of the Austrian Academy for Sexual Medicine will be “European Qualified”
Since 2007, an European curriculum for sexual medicine in line with the European Academy for Sexual Medicine (EASM) (see http://www.essm.org/society/esma/sexual-medicine-curriculum.html) has existed which is closely related to the German sexual medicine curriculum developed and carried out in close association with the ASM.
